Elementary Art

During the 2020-21 school year I will be zooming in to the elementary classrooms from the art room located in the middle and high school building so art class looks a little different! Students will mostly be using the supplies they brought with them to school at the beginning of the year so that we don't have to worry about disinfecting shared tools.

At the elementary level the biggest focus is the artistic process. The product is important, too, in that we want students to do their best work and make something they are proud of, but the thinking and decision making that goes into making art is far more important than what the finished product looks like. I would rather have students make something that is their own idea and help them make it as good as it can be, than have a whole class of projects that look cute but are all copies of my idea. The students' ideas are just as important as mine.

We will have some projects that are more teacher-directed to build skills, but I try to give the students as many choices as I can. Most of the time if I choose the theme, I will let students choose the media and the reverse if I choose the medium.
